The service

This site provides a free tool that inspects and removes metadata from files on your own device. No account is required and no fee is charged.

No warranty

The tool is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. It is built carefully and every removal is verified automatically, but file formats are varied and some are extended in undocumented ways by individual manufacturers. If a file is important, keep the original and check the result yourself before relying on it.

In particular: metadata removal does not remove information that is visible inside the image itself. A screenshot showing a filename, a reflection revealing a location, or a document in frame is untouched by anything this tool does.

Acceptable use

You are responsible for what you do with your files. Removing metadata from files you own is ordinarily lawful, but context matters. In particular:

• Do not use this tool to remove copyright or attribution information from work that is not yours in order to misrepresent its authorship.
• Do not use it to strip AI disclosure metadata in order to deceive a person, a client, a publication, a competition or a platform about how content was created. Disclosure obligations may apply to you, including under the EU AI Act's Article 50 from 2 August 2026.
• Do not use it to tamper with evidence or to obstruct a legal process.

We cannot enforce any of this, because we never see your files. It is stated so that our intent is unambiguous.

Your files stay yours

Nothing you open here is transmitted, so we acquire no rights over your files, no licence to them, and no copy of them. You keep every right you had before you opened the page. This is not a concession; it is the only arrangement the architecture allows.

Our content

The site's name, text, design and source are ours. You are welcome to quote and link to the written pages with attribution. You may not republish them wholesale or present the tool as your own product. If you want to use it inside something you are building,ask — the answer is usually yes.

Availability

The site is free, and no uptime is promised. It may be unavailable, changed, or discontinued without notice. Because the tool runs entirely in your browser, a version you have already loaded keeps working offline even when the site itself does not.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from use of this tool — including a damaged or lost file, a metadata field that survived removal, or a disclosure that resulted from relying on the tool without checking the result. You use it at your own risk, on files you have kept a copy of.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. If you use the site as a consumer elsewhere, this does not remove the protections of the mandatory law of your own country.

Changes

These terms may be updated. The date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
